Research information

Predecessor institutions

The Drexel University College of Medicine Archives includes both archival records of its predecessor institutions and special collections. The materials are divided into two collections:

  • records relating to Woman's Medical College and Medical College of Pennsylvania and Women in Medicine
  • records relating to Hahnemann University and Homeopathic Medicine.

The Guide to the Collections is the primary tool for online access to the WMC/MCP & Women in Medicine collection.

**There is currently no online access to the Hahnemann Collections; for information regarding this collection please contact the archives staff.

The collections consist of 3900 linear feet of manuscript materials, 20,000 photographs and numerous objects. While some materials date from the 16th Century, the bulk of the collections fall between 1835 and the present. Collection formats include:

  • manuscripts, minute books, theses, scrapbooks, diaries, and correspondence
  • historical books and other published materials
  • ephemera
  • prints and photographs
  • moving images
  • oral history tapes and transcripts
  • costumes and other textiles
  • three-dimensional objects (e.g. surgical instruments, medicines, and teaching tools)
