Dr. Anna Broomall was born in 1847 in Chester County, PA. She graduated from Woman’s Medical College in 1871. In 1875, she took the position of Professor in Obstetrics and in 1879 was granted full professorship. She began the Out Practice Maternity Department to aid students in gaining practical experience in midwifery in 1888. Dr. Broomall is well-known for the mock trials held in the spring of 1892, in which a hypothetical infanticide case was presented. The trials supplemented Dr. Broomall’s lectures and gave students practice with medical testimony and presenting medical evidence to juries.
